Its origins go back to the late 1700 and it was obtained from the internal part of an ancient church dedicated to San Filippo Neri. The Apollo Theatre, completely renovated in 1887, is in its kind an authentic jewel that the recent renovation has brought back to its ancient splendor.
It was initially administrated by L’Accademia del Teatro and was very active in the 1800 and the first half of 1900. It is very suggestive for the harmony of the spaces & the elegance of its decorations. The adornments are in Corinthian style, there are diamond shaped frames, acanthus “raceme” are represented and many other flower wreaths are also painted throughout the theater. The ceiling is very refined, where a painted veil is represented with at its center Apollo with Lyre surrounded by little angels. Today the theater has regained its important cultural & social function not only in Mondavio but also in the surrounding area..
